Caroline Berube, Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, and her team, had a gratifying experience volunteering at the soup kitchen of Willing Hearts Singapore, a charity preparing and distributing daily meals to the needy! Bravo to the Singapore team members who turned up as early as 5am! The activity was also held in conjunction with the annual Primerus Global Day of Service on December 5th, 2020 which promotes and encourages giving something back to the community. Canada Immigration – Federal Skilled Worker Program and Student Pathways, Webinar on December 1st, 2020
Caroline Berube, Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, gives a warm “Thank You” to Georgina Mieke (Migration Director at S.E.A. Business Centre Pte. Investigating Misconduct in Foreign Jurisdictions – Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Asia Pacific (APAC) webinar on August 26th, 2020
Caroline Berube, Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law is back as a presenter for this topic today, this time targeted for APAC audience, at a webinar organised by the International Legal Affairs Network (ILAN) of the ACC and sponsored by the International Society of Primerus Law Firms. Belgian Economic Mission to China – Official Signing Ceremony held on November 18th, 2019 in Beijing
Caroline Berube, Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law was invited to an MoU signing ceremony during the Belgian Economic Mission to the People’s Republic of China, presided by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium, Representative of His Majesty the King, held in Beijing on November 18th, 2019. The MoU was between the European Data Protection Office of Belgium, represented by Ms. Jane Murphy, founder and chair of the board and HJM Asia Law with the objective to raise awareness about GDPR in Asia and to explore opportunities to develop and support activities and services related to the application of GDPR to Asian companies. Seminar on “Intellectual Property: Legal concepts and best practices for aerospace companies doing business in Canada and Asia” held on November 14th, 2019 in Montréal, Canada
Caroline Berube, Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law had the privilege to present on the topic of “Intellectual Property: Legal concepts and best practices for aerospace companies doing business in Canada and Asia” at the IP Seminar jointly organised by Aéro Montréal and Export Québec. Caroline had the pleasure to be joined by Xavier Genest, Intellectual Property Advisor of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), who gave a presentation from a Canadian perspective. Caroline and Xavier spoke about trademarks, patents, trade secrets, industrial designs and copyright, and explained how the protection of products by IP rights can give an advantage over competitors with case studies.

As companies’ operations have become more global and business partners are located overseas, it is critical to understand the differences between the applicable US law and the law of the jurisdiction in which the business counterpart is located. HJM Asia Law proudly pursued the women lunch tradition and hosted its women’s fall edition lunch on October 2nd, 2019. We invited a group of more than thirty (30) women with various backgrounds and expertise to this event celebrating women leadership and business successes. This was another great network opportunity and forum to share each other’s accomplishments and achievements. Caroline Berube, Canadian based in Asia, author of the book “Doing Business in China” and Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law was pleased to support Commonwealth Day 2019. The event was held at the historical colonial Eden Hall, British High Commissioner’s Residence in Singapore. Other major supporters included Prudential UK and Dyson. “International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th every year. … After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8th became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations!” HJM Asia Law proudly pursued the tradition and hosted its annual women’s lunch on March 22nd, 2019. This year, HJM invited a group of more than 35 professional women coming from 25 different countries and with various backgrounds and expertise. We celebrated women leadership and business successes of this amazing group! This was another great network opportunity and forum to share each other’s accomplishments and achievements.

Canada Night at the Races is an event organised by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and held at the Singapore Turf Club annually. Canadian Alumni Singapore, Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner, Singapore, February 11th, 2019

The International Bar Association held its 3rd Annual “Investing in Africa” Conference in Paris, France on June 22nd to 23rd, 2017.
Convinced that the next big wave is Asia in Africa, HJM managing partner, Caroline Berube, spoke at the session : “Opportunities and Challenges for Investors and how advisors can assist” sharing her experience about Chinese, Singaporean and other Asian investors doing business in Africa.
The panel was composed of investors and advisors offering insight on best advices for corporate clients seeking opportunities on the African continent emphasizing also on the diversity of the continent on which Caroline agreed given her knowledge of the Asia Pacific region and its diverse cultural and economic diversity similar to Africa. Caroline Berube had the privilege to teach a wonderful class for 10.5 hours during the 2017 Winter Short Program at the Sorbonne Assas International Law School, Singapore Campus.
