The Italian Chambers of Commerce organised a panel discussion exploring opportunities in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, the geopolitical implications of evolving Global South dynamics, and how Singapore’s multilateral approach can help maintain its relevance amid a new U.S. administration. Panellists included Caroline Berube, President of CanCham and Managing Partner at HJM Asia Law; Gianfranco Casati, former CEO of Growth Markets at Accenture and current Chairman of a private equity fund; and Simone Santi, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mozambique, with the discussion moderated by Professor Francesco Mancini, Vice Dean (Executive Education) and Associate Professor in Practice at the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. As a panellist, Caroline shared perspectives on how emerging markets and the Global South are recalibrating in response to geopolitical shifts, how Singapore positions itself within multilateral frameworks in a changing U.S. policy landscape, and how legal advisers must adapt to these developments. The discussion covered key themes such as investment flows, regulatory alignment, trade policy, and managing legal risk in an increasingly complex and dynamic global environment.
