The Global Legal Post – Corporate Tax & Tax Controversy Comparative Guide: China Chapter, September 2026

Our Managing Partner, Caroline Berube, together with the HJM team, authored the China chapter of The Global Legal Post Corporate Tax & Tax Controversy Comparative Guide, part of the Law Over Borders series.

The chapter provides a practical overview of China’s corporate tax regime. It covers corporate income tax rates and the main preferential regimes, including those for small and low-profit enterprises, high-tech and encouraged industries, and key integrated circuit and software enterprises. It also explains the withholding tax treatment of non-resident passive income, the status of the OECD/G20 Global Minimum Tax (Pillar Two) in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong SAR, and the taxation of worldwide income and capital gains.

Special thanks to Joanne Picot, Debbie Knowles and Emily Kyriacou of The Global Legal Post for bringing this guide together.

The guide is available online here.
